Large Statement Fans

Statement fans are sized for distance. The spread runs well past a standard fan, which turns the leaf into a small banner and makes a wordmark or a symbol readable from the back of a venue or the far side of a parade route. They are the format for anything that has to be legible in a photograph taken from fifty feet away.

Going wide changes the engineering. The ribs are reinforced and the pivot is upsized so the fan holds its spread instead of sagging at the outer edge, and the leaf is tensioned to stay flat under its own width. Done properly, the extra size makes the clack deeper and more theatrical rather than mushy.

Artwork is laid out for the arc, not for a rectangle: we place type along the spread so it curves correctly and stays even, and we mock up the fan half-open as well as fully open, because a big fan spends a lot of its life in between. Fabric or sequin leaves are both available at this size.
